Descripción

FZD3 is a member of the Frizzled family involved primarily in non-canonical Wnt signaling pathways, including planar cell polarity (PCP) and Wnt/Ca2+ signaling. It is highly expressed in the nervous system, particularly during embryonic development, where it regulates axon guidance, neural crest cell migration, and synapse formation. FZD3 is critical for establishing cellular polarity, neural connectivity, and patterning during brain and spinal cord development. In the peripheral nervous system, it directs the migration of neural crest-derived cells and the growth of sensory and motor neurons. Dysregulation of FZD3 has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, such as defective axonal outgrowth and neuronal wiring defects. In cancer, FZD3 is implicated in promoting cell migration, invasion, and metastasis in certain cancers, including breast and colorectal cancers, through its role in non-canonical signaling. FZD3’s contribution to axonal regeneration and neural plasticity makes it a potential target for treating neurological injuries and neurodegenerative diseases. Overall, FZD3 is essential for neural development, cellular polarity, and migration, balancing normal development with disease pathology.
