Descripción

EEF1E1 is a subunit of the eukaryotic elongation factor 1 (eEF1) complex, which plays a critical role in protein synthesis by facilitating the recruitment of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome during elongation. EEF1E1 functions as a structural component, stabilizing the interaction between other subunits, such as EEF1A and EEF1B, within the eEF1 complex. It is also involved in regulating the exchange of GDP for GTP on EEF1A, a critical step in elongation cycle progression. EEF1E1 is expressed ubiquitously, reflecting its essential role in maintaining efficient protein translation in all cells. Dysregulation of EEF1E1 has been linked to cancer progression, where increased protein synthesis supports tumor growth and proliferation. It is also implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, where disruptions in protein homeostasis and elongation factor function are contributing factors. Further studies are needed to explore its broader roles in translational control and disease pathology.
