Background

DOK5 is a member of the DOK family, functioning as an adaptor protein in signaling pathways downstream of RET and insulin receptors. It is expressed in skeletal muscle, heart, and nervous tissue, where it regulates processes like cell survival, differentiation, and metabolic signaling. DOK5 enhances insulin signaling by activating the MAPK/ERK pathway but does not influence the PI3K/Akt pathway. It is critical for neurite outgrowth and neuronal development, particularly in response to neurotrophic factors.
