Descripción

AGBL4 is an enzyme involved in the deglutamylation of tubulin, a critical process for regulating microtubule dynamics and stability. It removes polyglutamate side chains from the C-terminal tails of tubulin, thereby influencing microtubule-based transport, axon guidance, and neuronal plasticity. AGBL4 is expressed in various tissues, including the brain, heart, and skeletal muscle, suggesting a role in both neuronal and muscular function. Dysregulation of AGBL4 has been associated with neurological disorders, where defective tubulin modifications impair intracellular transport, leading to synaptic dysfunction and neurodegeneration. Emerging research also implicates AGBL4 in certain cancers, where altered microtubule stability can drive aberrant cell division and migration. The enzyme’s activity is crucial for maintaining the delicate balance of tubulin modifications required for normal cellular and tissue homeostasis.
