Descripción

Cytoplasmic FMR1 interacting protein 2 (CYFIP2) is a protein that interacts with the fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP) and plays a critical role in regulating the actin cytoskeleton in neurons CYFIP2 is a key component of the WAVE complex, which controls the polymerization of actin filaments and is essential for cellular processes like migration, adhesion, and synaptic plasticity In the nervous system, CYFIP2 helps control the formation and maintenance of dendritic spines, which are critical for synaptic strength and plasticity These functions are vital for learning, memory, and the development of neural networks Disruption of CYFIP2 activity has been linked to neurological disorders, particularly fragile X syndrome, where impairments in synaptic function contribute to cognitive and behavioral deficits CYFIP2’s involvement in both synaptic plasticity and the regulation of the cytoskeleton makes it a critical player in neurodevelopment and a potential target for therapies aimed at treating neurodevelopmental disorders
