CF Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (ABCC7), widely known as the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), is a chloride channel essential for maintaining ion and water balance across epithelial cell membranes. Mutations in the CFTR gene cause cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-threatening genetic disorder that leads to thick mucus buildup in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. As an ATP-gated channel, ABCC7 regulates chloride and bicarbonate secretion, influencing fluid viscosity and pH in various tissues.
