Background

Interleukin 16 (IL16) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a critical role in immune system regulation, particularly in the recruitment and activation of immune cells such as CD4+ T cells, eosinophils, monocytes, and dendritic cells. It functions as a chemoattractant, orchestrating immune cell migration to sites of inflammation and infection, and thus facilitating the body's defense mechanisms. IL-16 is unique in that it acts primarily through its interaction with the CD4 receptor, which is widely expressed on various immune cells.
