Background
Bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 1B (BMPR1B) is a serine/threonine kinase receptor that plays a central role in mediating the effects of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), which are part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. BMPs are critical regulators of cell growth, differentiation, development, and tissue repair. BMPR1B specifically binds BMP ligands, initiating signaling pathways that drive cellular responses crucial for skeletal development, cartilage formation, and neural differentiation. Unlike BMPR1A, which has broader expression and interacts with a range of BMPs, BMPR1B expression is more restricted, and it is particularly important in cartilage development and chondrogenesis.
