Descripción
AMZ2, like AMZ1, is a zinc-dependent metallopeptidase that functions in the regulation of protein degradation and extracellular matrix remodeling. AMZ2 is widely expressed in tissues, including those involved in immune responses and connective tissue maintenance. AMZ2 has been shown to play a role in proteolytic processes that modulate cellular signaling pathways, tissue repair, and organ development. Its enzymatic activity depends on zinc ions, which are essential for stabilizing the active site and facilitating substrate cleavage. AMZ2 is involved in regulating inflammatory processes by processing bioactive peptides and matrix proteins, contributing to tissue remodeling during immune responses and injury repair. Dysregulation of AMZ2 has been associated with chronic inflammation, cancer progression, and neurodegenerative diseases, where altered proteolytic activity can disrupt tissue integrity and cellular signaling.
