Descripción
Apolipoprotein L2 (APOL2) is another member of the Apolipoprotein L family and is involved in lipid metabolism, cellular transport, and immune responses. APOL2 is expressed in various tissues, including the brain, liver, and immune cells, and interacts with intracellular membranes and lipid-containing structures. While its function is less defined than APOL1, APOL2 is believed to participate in lipid transport and the regulation of cellular lipid balance. Recent research has suggested that APOL2 may play a role in the modulation of apoptosis, cellular survival, and responses to oxidative stress. Its expression levels are often altered in disease states such as cancers and neurodegenerative disorders, where APOL2 may contribute to tumor progression, inflammation, and immune regulation. Studies also suggest a connection between APOL2 and host-pathogen interactions, as its upregulation has been observed in response to infections and inflammatory cytokines. APOL2’s involvement in cellular homeostasis, combined with its emerging roles in immune response and lipid handling, makes it a promising target for further research into its function and potential therapeutic applications in cancer and immune-mediated diseases.
