Description

This gene belongs to a family of genes that function as receptors for tachykinins. Receptor affinities are specified by variations in the 5'-end of the sequence. The receptors belonging to this family are characterized by interactions with G proteins and 7 hydrophobic transmembrane regions. This gene encodes the receptor for the tachykinin neurokinin 3, also referred to as neurokinin B.

Descripción

TACR3, also known as NK3R, is a G protein-coupled receptor activated by neurokinin B (NKB), a neuropeptide involved in regulating multiple physiological processes. TACR3 primarily couples to Gq proteins, stimulating phospholipase C (PLC), increasing intracellular calcium, and modulating cell signaling. It is predominantly expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), particularly in regions involved in regulating reproductive functions and controlling circadian rhythms. TACR3 plays a critical role in regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, influencing reproductive hormone release, and modulating sexual behavior. In addition, it is involved in controlling mood and anxiety by regulating neurogenic inflammation. Dysregulation of TACR3 signaling has been linked to conditions such as infertility, mood disorders, and certain cancers. Targeting TACR3 with antagonists offers potential therapeutic benefits in treating disorders related to reproductive function, anxiety, and neurogenic inflammation.
