Description

The small GTPases Rab are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, from the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with membranes. Rabs cycle between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form that is able to recruit to membranes different set of downstream effectors directly responsible for vesicle formation, movement, tethering and fusion. That Rab may play a role in protein transport from recycling endosomes to lysosomes regulating, for instance, the degradation of the transferrin receptor. Involved in autophagy(By similarity).

Descripción

RAB12, member RAS oncogene family (RAB12) is a member of the small GTPase family and plays a crucial role in regulating vesicular trafficking and membrane dynamics RAB12 is involved in the regulation of autophagy, the process by which cells degrade and recycle damaged organelles and proteins It also contributes to the movement of late endosomes and lysosomes, ensuring proper intracellular sorting and degradation of cellular waste materials RAB12 plays a role in the trafficking of proteins between cellular compartments, especially in regulating the transport of key receptors, and is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis Additionally, RAB12 has been shown to participate in regulating cell migration and adhesion, as its dysfunction can lead to defects in receptor recycling and membrane protein turnover RAB12’s role in vesicle trafficking and autophagy links it to neurodegenerative diseases, where impaired protein degradation and clearance lead to cellular dysfunction It is also involved in cancer biology, where altered vesicular trafficking can contribute to tumor progression, metastasis, and chemotherapy resistance
