Description

Descripción
LRRC52 is an auxiliary subunit of large-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels predominantly expressed in smooth muscle tissues and neurons it modulates the gating properties of BK channels influencing their sensitivity to voltage and calcium signaling this regulation is critical for cellular excitability and processes such as smooth muscle contraction and neurotransmitter release LRRC52 has been implicated in the control of vascular tone and neuronal signaling playing a role in conditions such as hypertension and neurological disorders studies suggest its expression is essential for proper reproductive function as it regulates ion channel activity in sperm further research is exploring its role in diseases such as epilepsy and hypertension where BK channel dysfunction contributes to pathophysiology LRRC52's interactions with other channel subunits and its regulatory mechanisms are key areas of ongoing investigation aimed at identifying novel therapeutic strategies targeting ion channel dysregulation
