Descripción

GPR17 is a G protein-coupled receptor involved in several physiological processes, including the regulation of myelination, neurotransmitter release, and inflammation. GPR17 has been identified as a receptor that is expressed in oligodendrocyte precursor cells and plays a role in myelin formation in the central nervous system. GPR17 is activated by both endogenous ligands, such as uracil nucleotides, and can also respond to purines like adenosine. Upon activation, GPR17 primarily couples to Gi and Gq proteins, leading to intracellular signaling that influences cellular processes such as differentiation and migration. Dysregulation of GPR17 has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases, including multiple sclerosis, where it may impact myelin repair and regeneration. Investigating GPR17 signaling could provide new therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative disorders and conditions that involve impaired tissue repair.
