Description
Component of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome(APC/C), a cell cycle-regulated E3 ubiquitin ligase that controls progression through mitosis and the G1 phase of the cell cycle. The APC/C complex acts by mediating ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of target proteins: it mainly mediates the formation of 'Lys-11'-linked polyubiquitin chains and, to a lower extent, the formation of 'Lys-48'-and 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitin chains. May recruit the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes to the complex.

Descripción
ANAPC12 (CDC26)is a structural subunit of the Anaphase-Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) that stabilizes the assembly of the complex and supports its ubiquitin ligase activity. ANAPC12 forms part of the platform that anchors other key components, ensuring the recruitment and interaction of co-activators such as CDC20 and CDH1 with substrates. Through its structural role, ANAPC12 helps mediate the ubiquitination of critical regulators such as cyclins, securin, and other proteins involved in cell cycle progression. ANAPC12 is required for proper activation of APC/C during metaphase-to-anaphase transition and mitotic exit. Dysregulation of ANAPC12 can impair APC/C activity, leading to mitotic defects, genomic instability, and increased susceptibility to cancer. Recent studies suggest that ANAPC12 may play additional roles in cellular stress responses and DNA damage repair, linking it to broader regulatory networks. Its importance in APC/C function highlights ANAPC12 as a critical factor for maintaining cell cycle fidelity and genomic integrity.
