Background
ANKRD44 is a protein containing ankyrin repeat domains that mediate protein-protein interactions, allowing it to function as a scaffold in cellular signaling pathways. ANKRD44 has been implicated in regulating protein localization, particularly in the context of nuclear and cytoplasmic processes. It may play roles in transcriptional regulation and signal transduction pathways that control cell growth and differentiation. ANKRD44 has also been suggested to interact with components of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), contributing to protein turnover and homeostasis. Dysregulation of ANKRD44 has been associated with abnormal protein degradation and signaling, which may lead to diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
