Descripción
ALPK3 is an alpha-protein kinase involved in critical cellular processes, including cardiac development, sarcomere organization, and metabolic signaling. It is highly expressed in cardiac and skeletal muscle tissues, where it regulates protein phosphorylation necessary for proper contractile function and muscle structure. Mutations in ALPK3 are associated with cardiomyopathies, including dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), due to defects in sarcomere assembly and signaling pathways. ALPK3 has also been shown to interact with AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), linking it to energy sensing and metabolic regulation in cardiomyocytes. Beyond its role in cardiac function, ALPK3 may influence cell growth and differentiation, and its dysregulation has been implicated in tumorigenesis. Recent studies suggest that ALPK3 acts as a tumor suppressor in specific cancers, where its loss of function enhances cell proliferation and survival. Its critical roles in cardiac development and cellular metabolism make ALPK3 a promising target for therapeutic intervention in cardiac and metabolic diseases.
