Descripción
Alpha-Protein Kinase 1 (ALPK1) is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the alpha-protein kinase family, characterized by its atypical catalytic domain structure. ALPK1 plays a role in various cellular processes, including protein trafficking, inflammation, and innate immune signaling. It is involved in the Golgi-to-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) transport pathway and has been implicated in the regulation of vesicle trafficking. ALPK1 is also recognized as a critical mediator of inflammatory responses, where it activates signaling pathways such as NF-kB and MAPK in response to pathogenic stimuli. Genetic mutations or dysregulation of ALPK1 have been associated with inflammatory diseases, including gouty arthritis and familial autoinflammatory conditions such as ALPK1-associated autoinflammatory syndrome. In addition, emerging evidence suggests that ALPK1 may contribute to tumorigenesis through its role in cellular signaling and inflammation. Therapeutic strategies targeting ALPK1 are being explored to modulate inflammation and immune responses, with potential implications for treating inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
