Description

Amylases are secreted proteins that hydrolyze 1, 4-alpha-glucoside bonds in oligosaccharides and polysaccharides, and thus catalyze the first step in digestion of dietary starch and glycogen. The human genome has a cluster of several amylase genes that are expressed at high levels in either salivary gland or pancreas. This gene encodes an amylase isoenzyme produced by the pancreas.

Descripción

AMY2B is a pancreatic alpha-amylase isozyme that shares structural and functional similarity with AMY2A. It is produced in the pancreas and contributes to the hydrolysis of starch and glycogen into absorbable sugars during digestion in the small intestine. AMY2B, along with AMY2A, ensures efficient breakdown of dietary polysaccharides, supporting energy production and metabolic homeostasis. AMY2B levels are frequently assessed alongside AMY2A to evaluate pancreatic health in clinical settings. Elevated AMY2B levels are associated with acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic trauma, and other gastrointestinal disorders. Genetic variations in AMY2B can impact enzyme activity, influencing carbohydrate metabolism and susceptibility to metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. While AMY2B primarily functions in digestion, it may also play a role in broader metabolic regulation, underscoring its importance in maintaining pancreatic and systemic energy balance.

AMY2B antibody

AMY2B(alpha-amylase 2B) belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase 13 family. This protein is involved in the endohydrolysis of 1,4-alpha-glucosidic linkages in oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. The full length 58 kDa protein has a signal peptide with 15 amino acids. Human amylases(Amy1, Amy2A, and Amy2B) commonly have two potential N-glycosylation sites(N427 and N476) in their C-terminal region(S Takashima, J Amano, 2012). This antibody can recognize both AMY2A and AMY2B.
