Descripción
AKAP8, also known as AKAP95, is a nuclear scaffold protein that anchors PKA and other enzymes to chromatin and nuclear compartments, playing key roles in RNA processing, mitotic progression, and chromatin remodeling. AKAP8 regulates PKA-dependent phosphorylation of nuclear substrates involved in RNA splicing and transcriptional regulation, ensuring efficient gene expression during cell cycle progression. It also participates in mitotic events by anchoring protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) and chromatin-associated proteins to organize chromosome condensation and segregation. AKAP8 interacts with histones and chromatin remodelers, linking it to epigenetic regulation during cell differentiation and stress responses. Dysregulation of AKAP8 has been associated with aberrant gene expression, chromosomal instability, and cancer progression. In addition, AKAP8 plays a role in viral replication, where it acts as a scaffold for proteins involved in nuclear viral RNA export. Its localization and function make it a crucial regulator of nuclear processes.
