Background
ADAMTSL1 is a member of the ADAMTS-like (ADAMTSL) protein family, which is structurally related to the ADAMTS proteases but lacks catalytic activity due to the absence of the metalloproteinase domain. ADAMTSL1 is characterized by thrombospondin type 1 repeats (TSRs) and cysteine-rich domains. It is primarily involved in the assembly and regulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, particularly fibrillin microfibrils, which are crucial for maintaining tissue integrity and elasticity. Dysregulation of ADAMTSL1 has been associated with connective tissue disorders and ECM-related diseases. Research suggests that ADAMTSL1 may modulate transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathways, which play essential roles in cellular proliferation and differentiation.
