Background

ACTRT1, also known as Arp-T1, is a member of the actin-related protein family, distinct from conventional actin due to its inability to form actin filaments. ACTRT1 plays a role in specialized cellular processes, including cytoskeletal organization and vesicular trafficking. Structurally, it retains conserved actin domains but has sequence variations that limit polymerization. It is particularly expressed in cilia and flagella, where it regulates ciliary motility and organization. Dysregulation of ACTRT1 has been linked to ciliopathies, which manifest as defects in cilia-dependent processes like embryonic development and sensory functions.
