Background

ABL2, also known as ARG (ABL-related gene), is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase closely related to ABL1, with overlapping roles in regulating actin cytoskeleton remodeling, cell adhesion, and migration. ABL2 is localized predominantly in the cytoplasm and membrane structures, where it interacts with actin-binding proteins and cytoskeletal components to regulate cell shape and motility. It contains similar structural domains to ABL1, including SH2 and SH3 domains, a kinase domain, and actin-binding regions that enable its role in cytoskeletal organization and intracellular signaling. ABL2 is highly expressed in tissues involved in structural integrity and movement, such as neurons and fibroblasts.
