Description
AKAP8L could play a role in constitutive transport element (CTE) mediated gene expression. Does not seem to be implicated in the binding of regulatory subunit II of PKA. May be involved in nuclear envelope breakdown and chromatin condensation. May regulate the initiation phase of DNA replication when associated with TMPO-beta.

Background
A Kinase Anchor Protein 8-Like (AKAP8L) is a member of the AKAP family of scaffolding proteins that anchor protein kinase A (PKA) and other signaling molecules to specific subcellular locations, thereby compartmentalizing signaling pathways. AKAP8L is predominantly localized in the nucleus, where it plays a critical role in RNA processing, chromatin remodeling, and transcriptional regulation. It is involved in coordinating events such as mRNA splicing and nuclear export, and it may also contribute to mitotic progression through its interactions with chromatin-associated proteins. AKAP8L facilitates the integration of signaling cascades with gene expression, highlighting its role in cellular adaptation to external and internal cues. Dysregulation of AKAP8L has been implicated in cancer and other diseases, where disrupted nuclear signaling and chromatin dynamics affect cell proliferation and survival. Emerging research suggests AKAP8L’s involvement in stress responses, particularly in modulating nuclear processes under conditions of DNA damage or oxidative stress, making it a potential target for therapeutic intervention.
