Descripción
A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase Domain 1 (ADAM1) is a member of the ADAM family of proteins, characterized by their roles in cell adhesion, migration, and proteolysis. ADAM1 is primarily expressed in the testis and is involved in sperm-egg interactions during fertilization. It is localized to the surface of spermatozoa and is essential for sperm binding to the zona pellucida of the oocyte. ADAM1 contains multiple domains, including a metalloproteinase domain, which is responsible for proteolytic activity, and a disintegrin domain, involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. Dysregulation of ADAM1 expression or function may impact male fertility and reproductive health.
