This gene encodes a member of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFB) family of cytokines, which are multifunctional peptides that regulate proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, migration, and other functions in many cell types by transducing their signal through combinations of transmembrane type I and type II receptors (TGFBR1 and TGFBR2) and their downstream effectors, the SMAD proteins. Disruption of the TGFB/SMAD pathway has been implicated in a variety of human cancers. The encoded protein is secreted and has suppressive effects of interleukin-2 dependent T-cell growth. Translocation t (1;7) (q41;p21) between this gene and HDAC9 is associated with Peters' anomaly, a congenital defect of the anterior chamber of the eye. The knockout mice lacking this gene show perinatal mortality and a wide range of developmental, including cardiac, defects. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. This antibody is supplied as crude ascites.
TGFB2 is a member of the TGF-β cytokine family, which regulates a wide range of cellular processes, including proliferation, differentiation, migration, apoptosis, and immune suppression. TGFB2 is critically involved in embryogenesis, particularly in the development of the heart, lungs, and central nervous system, as well as in tissue homeostasis and repair. It signals through SMAD-dependent and non-SMAD pathways, modulating gene expression and cellular responses to environmental stimuli. TGFB2 plays an essential role in immune regulation, where it suppresses inflammation and promotes tolerance by inducing regulatory T cell (Treg) development. Dysregulation of TGFB2 is implicated in developmental disorders, fibrosis, and tumor progression, where it drives epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and facilitates immune evasion. Knockout studies show severe developmental defects, including cardiac abnormalities, craniofacial malformations, and impaired organogenesis, underscoring TGFB2’s importance in tissue development, immune modulation, and homeostatic maintenance.
