Descripción

TAAR5 is a G protein-coupled receptor that belongs to the trace amine-associated receptor family, which responds to trace amines such as phenylethylamine and tryptamine. TAAR5 is expressed in various tissues, particularly in the olfactory bulb and other regions of the central nervous system, where it is involved in modulating sensory processing and neurotransmitter release. Like other trace amine receptors, TAAR5 signals through Gi proteins, modulating the release of dopamine, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters. It plays a role in regulating behaviors related to mood and cognition, and its signaling is implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety. Dysregulation of TAAR5 is thought to influence the central nervous system's response to stimuli, making it a potential target for treatments aimed at improving mood and cognitive function. Research into TAAR5 may provide new insights into neuropsychiatric therapies and neurochemical signaling.
