Descripción

TAS1R3 is another critical component of the type 1 taste receptor family, primarily involved in the perception of sweet and umami tastes. TAS1R3 partners with TAS1R1 and TAS1R2 to form functional receptor complexes responsible for detecting specific taste qualities. When combined with TAS1R1, TAS1R3 contributes to the perception of umami, while in combination with TAS1R2, it plays a key role in the detection of sweet tastes. TAS1R3 is expressed in taste receptor cells on the tongue and plays a significant role in the brain's ability to interpret taste signals, especially for sugars and amino acids. The activation of TAS1R3 by its ligands leads to signaling cascades that involve second messengers, which ultimately result in the sensation of sweetness or umami. TAS1R3’s role in both sweet and savory taste perception makes it essential for the regulation of food preferences and nutritional intake. Variations in TAS1R3 expression or function are linked to individual differences in taste preferences and dietary habits.
