Somatostatin Receptor 4 (SSTR4) Antibody

Background

SSTR4 is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds somatostatin, a peptide hormone involved in inhibiting the release of other hormones such as growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon. It primarily couples to Gi proteins, inhibiting adenylate cyclase activity and reducing cAMP levels, which results in the suppression of hormone secretion and modulation of cellular responses. SSTR4 is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the brain, pancreas, and gastrointestinal tract. In the brain, it plays a role in regulating neurotransmitter release and synaptic transmission. In the pancreas, it helps to control insulin and glucagon secretion, contributing to glucose homeostasis. Dysregulation of SSTR4 has been implicated in disorders such as acromegaly and diabetes.
