SIRT3 is a recombinant protein.
Sirtuins are a family of signaling proteins that play a crucial role in metabolic regulation. They are classified into two main types based on their enzymatic activities: mono-ADP-ribosyltransferases or deacylases. Sirtuins are involved in influencing a wide range of cellular processes, including aging, transcription, apoptosis, inflammation, and stress resistance. In humans, there are seven types of sirtuins known as SIRT1 through SIRT7. The first Sirtuin, Sir2, was initially discovered in yeast. SIRT3 is the major mitochondria NAD+-dependent deacetylase and is known for targeting mitochondrial proteins for lysine deacetylation. It plays a significant role in the adaptive response of mitochondria to stress.
