Taste Receptor Type 2 Member 120 (TAS2R120) functions as a part of the broader bitter taste receptor family, detecting a wide array of bitter compounds in the human diet and environment. Located in the gustatory cells of taste buds, TAS2R120 responds to bitter substances by activating downstream G-protein signaling pathways, resulting in neuronal stimulation and the perception of bitterness. In addition to its primary role in taste, TAS2R120 is expressed in extra-oral locations such as the airways and gut, where it may contribute to the regulation of immune responses and maintain mucosal integrity.
