Descripción
HEPACAM2 is a member of the HEPACAM (Hepatocyte Cell Adhesion Molecule) family, which is involved in cell adhesion, cell signaling, and the maintenance of cellular morphology. Like other members of this family, HEPACAM2 contains immunoglobulin (Ig)-like domains that facilitate interactions with other proteins, contributing to cell-cell adhesion and communication. It is a transmembrane protein with roles in maintaining tissue integrity and cellular architecture. HEPACAM2 is expressed in various tissues, including the kidneys, liver, and testes, with its highest levels observed in organs involved in filtration and secretion. It is thought to play a role in glomerular filtration in the kidney and in maintaining structural support in the liver and testes. HEPACAM2 is implicated in regulating cell polarity, migration, and adhesion, processes critical for maintaining tissue organization and homeostasis. It is also thought to modulate interactions between cells and the extracellular matrix, potentially influencing signaling pathways that control growth and differentiation.
