Note | Validity: The validity for this kit is 6 months. This product is for research use only. The range and sensitivity is subject to change. Please contact us for the latest product information. For accurate results, sample concentrations must be diluted to mid-range of the kit. If you require a specific range, please contact us in advance or write your request in your order comments. Please note that our ELISA and CLIA kits are optimised for detection of native samples, rather than recombinant proteins. We are unable to guarantee detection of recombinant proteins, as they may have different sequences or tertiary structures to the native protein. |
Descripción
CD59 molecule (CD59) is a small, glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored protein expressed on the surface of a wide variety of human cells. Its primary function is to inhibit the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) during the complement cascade, which is part of the immune system’s defense mechanism. By binding to components C8 and C9 of the complement system, CD59 prevents the insertion and polymerization of MAC into cell membranes, protecting host cells from lysis. This protective role is critical in maintaining cellular integrity and preventing autoimmune damage. CD59 also exhibits roles beyond complement regulation; it has been implicated in modulating T-cell activation and participating in signal transduction pathways through its interactions with other membrane proteins. Deficiency or dysfunction of CD59 is associated with certain pathological conditions, such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), where red blood cells become highly susceptible to complement-mediated lysis. Additionally, CD59 is being studied for its potential role in cancer, as its overexpression in tumor cells may help them evade immune surveillance. Its broad cellular expression and functional versatility make CD59 a crucial regulator of immune and cellular processes.

CD59 antibody
Potent inhibitor of the complement membrane attack complex(MAC) action. Acts by binding to the C8 and/or C9 complements of the assembling MAC, thereby preventing incorporation of the multiple copies of C9 required for complete formation of the osmolytic pore. This inhibitor appears to be species-specific. Involved in signal transduction for T-cell activation complexed to a protein tyrosine kinase. The soluble form from urine retains its specific complement binding activity, but exhibits greatly reduced ability to inhibit MAC assembly on cell membranes.
