Background

The anti-Müllerian hormone type-2 receptor (AMHR2) is a transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptor crucial in reproductive system development and function. AMHR2 is expressed primarily in the gonads, particularly in Sertoli cells in males and granulosa cells in females, where it mediates the effects of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH). During male embryogenesis, AMHR2 plays a pivotal role in the regression of the Müllerian ducts, structures that would otherwise develop into female reproductive organs, ensuring proper male reproductive tract formation. In females, AMHR2 is involved in ovarian folliculogenesis, regulating the sensitivity of granulosa cells to FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), and is considered a marker of ovarian reserve.
