Background

Acetyl Coenzyme A Acyltransferase 1B (ACAA1B) is a closely related isoform of ACAA1, sharing similar catalytic activity as a thiolase in the beta-oxidation of fatty acids within peroxisomes. ACAA1B is involved in cleaving 3-ketoacyl-CoA to generate acetyl-CoA, which can be used for energy production or other biosynthetic pathways. While its function overlaps significantly with ACAA1A, ACAA1B may have distinct tissue-specific expression patterns or substrate preferences, suggesting a specialized role in certain metabolic contexts.
