RAB8B, member RAS oncogene family (RAB8B) is closely related to RAB8A and shares many functions in vesicular trafficking, cell polarization, and synaptic function RAB8B is involved in the trafficking of vesicles between the Golgi apparatus and the plasma membrane, contributing to the delivery of membrane proteins and receptors to the cell surface RAB8B also regulates the movement of vesicles in other processes such as ciliogenesis and neuronal development, where it helps organize cellular structures like cilia and dendritic spines It has been implicated in cellular signaling pathways that influence growth, survival, and migration, particularly in response to environmental stimuli Similar to RAB8A, disruptions in RAB8B have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases, where impaired vesicular transport leads to dysfunction in synaptic activity and cell signaling Additionally, RAB8B plays a role in cellular responses to stress, and its dysregulation is associated with cancer, where changes in vesicular trafficking contribute to tumor growth and metastasis

The small GTPases Rab are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, from the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with membranes. Rabs cycle between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form that is able to recruit to membranes different sets of downstream effectors directly responsible for vesicle formation, movement, tethering and fusion. That Rab may be involved in polarized vesicular trafficking and neurotransmitter release. May participate in cell junction dynamics in Sertoli cells(By similarity).
