Descripción

RAB40B, member RAS oncogene family (RAB40B) is another member of the RAB GTPase family and shares many functions with other RAB proteins in regulating vesicular trafficking within the cell. RAB40B specifically aids in the sorting and transport of vesicles, ensuring that cellular components are directed to their proper locations, including the recycling of proteins and lipids between compartments. This regulation is vital for maintaining cellular processes such as signal transduction, protein synthesis, and receptor recycling. RAB40B is particularly involved in regulating the trafficking of specific cargo between the endosomes, lysosomes, and the plasma membrane, which ensures the proper processing of membrane-bound proteins. Furthermore, RAB40B contributes to cellular processes like endocytosis, where external signals and molecules are internalized by the cell for further processing. Disruptions in RAB40B’s function have been implicated in cancer, where abnormal vesicular trafficking and receptor signaling contribute to tumorigenesis. Its role in cellular trafficking also connects RAB40B to neurodegenerative diseases, where impaired vesicular recycling and dysfunction in autophagy lead to the accumulation of damaged proteins, contributing to neuronal degeneration.
