Descripción
RAB3A, member RAS oncogene family (RAB3A) is another small GTPase that is primarily involved in regulating vesicular trafficking, particularly in neurons and endocrine cells RAB3A plays a pivotal role in the regulated release of neurotransmitters and hormones through its involvement in synaptic vesicle recycling and exocytosis It is essential for the proper functioning of synapses, where it helps control the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the plasma membrane, allowing for neurotransmitter release and signal transmission between neurons In addition to its function in neurotransmission, RAB3A is also involved in insulin secretion in pancreatic beta cells Dysregulation of RAB3A is associated with neurological disorders, such as epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as metabolic disorders like diabetes, where impaired vesicle trafficking and hormone release contribute to disease progression Understanding RAB3A’s role in cellular transport and neurotransmission is critical for developing therapeutic strategies for neurological and metabolic diseases
