Background

RAB27A, member RAS oncogene family (RAB27A) is a key regulator of vesicular trafficking, particularly in the movement of vesicles to the plasma membrane It is involved in the transport of lysosome-related organelles and granules, which play a role in processes such as immune response, secretion, and synaptic vesicle recycling RAB27A is crucial for the proper functioning of cytotoxic T lymphocytes, as it helps in the delivery of cytotoxic granules to target cells during immune responses RAB27A also contributes to the regulation of melanosome trafficking in melanocytes, impacting pigmentation processes Additionally, it has been implicated in cellular functions related to exocytosis, where it regulates the release of various molecules from cells, including neurotransmitters and hormones Dysregulation of RAB27A is linked to diseases such as Griscelli syndrome, a condition characterized by pigmentation defects, immune dysfunction, and neurological impairments Moreover, RAB27A’s role in vesicular trafficking connects it to cancer, where alterations in its function can contribute to abnormal cellular signaling, migration, and metastasis, making it a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatments
