Descripción

ALOX15B, a close homolog of ALOX15, catalyzes the formation of 15(S)-HETE from arachidonic acid and other polyunsaturated fatty acids. Unlike ALOX15, ALOX15B is highly expressed in epithelial tissues, including the prostate, lung, and skin, where it plays a role in maintaining cellular homeostasis, inflammation resolution, and lipid metabolism. ALOX15B-derived lipid mediators regulate anti-inflammatory responses and oxidative stress, contributing to tissue repair and barrier function. Its dysregulation has been implicated in prostate cancer, where altered ALOX15B expression promotes cell proliferation, survival, and tumor progression through lipid signaling pathways. In addition, ALOX15B has a role in metabolic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes, where it influences lipid signaling and insulin sensitivity. ALOX15B’s ability to modulate inflammatory pathways and lipid homeostasis makes it a potential therapeutic target for cancer, metabolic disorders, and inflammatory diseases.

ALOX15B antibody

In humans, there are 6 functional lipoxygenases genes. Two of them encode for arachidonic acid 12-lipoxygenating(ALOX12, ALOX12B) and two for 15-lipoxygenating enzymes(ALOX15, ALOX15B). ALOX15B has been described as the most abundant 15-lipoxygenating enzyme species in human carotid atherosclerotic lesions and to be associated with cerebrovascular symptoms.(PMID:24373925). ALOX15B has 4 isoforms produced by alternative splicing with the MW of 76, 67, 69 and 73 kDa.
