Descripción
PHF11 is a PHD domain-containing protein involved in transcriptional regulation and immune responses. It interacts with transcription factors and chromatin modifiers to regulate the expression of genes associated with inflammation, immune cell activation, and DNA repair. PHF11 plays a key role in enhancing transcriptional activity at specific genomic loci, particularly in B cells and T cells, where it regulates immune responses, including cytokine production and class-switch recombination. It is highly expressed in lymphoid tissues, supporting its role in adaptive immunity and lymphocyte function. Dysregulation of PHF11 is associated with autoimmune diseases, inflammatory disorders, and cancer, where altered transcriptional regulation disrupts immune balance and cell proliferation. Knockout studies demonstrate impaired immune responses, reduced antibody production, and defective lymphocyte activation, highlighting its importance in transcriptional regulation, immune system maintenance, and adaptive immunity.

This gene encodes a protein containing a PHD (plant homeodomain) type zinc finger. This gene has been identified in some studies as a candidate gene for asthma. Naturally-occurring readthrough transcription may occur from the upstream SETDB2 (SET domain bifurcated 2) gene to this locus. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
