Descripción
PHF5A is a chromatin-binding protein that interacts with histones through its PHD finger domain and serves as a core component of the spliceosome complex. It regulates alternative splicing of pre-mRNA, controlling the expression of genes involved in cell cycle progression, differentiation, and apoptosis. PHF5A is essential for the recognition of splice sites and the recruitment of splicing machinery during transcription. It is ubiquitously expressed in proliferating tissues, particularly in stem cells and cancer cells, where it maintains proper gene expression programs. Dysregulation of PHF5A has been implicated in cancer, including glioblastoma and leukemia, where it promotes tumor progression by modulating splicing events that regulate survival and proliferation. Knockdown studies reveal impaired splicing, reduced cell proliferation, and increased apoptosis, underscoring its role as a critical regulator of RNA processing, transcription, and cellular growth.
