Descripción

CARD15, also known as NOD2 (Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain containing 2), is a member of the NOD-like receptor (NLR) family, which is involved in the innate immune response. CARD15 plays a critical role in detecting bacterial components, such as muramyl dipeptide, which are found in the cell walls of certain bacteria. Upon activation, CARD15 triggers signaling pathways that lead to the activation of NF-κB and MAPK pathways, promoting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. This process is crucial for the immune system to respond to bacterial infections. Mutations in CARD15/NOD2 are associated with several diseases, particularly Crohn's disease, a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), highlighting its role in regulating gut immune responses. Disruptions in CARD15 signaling can result in inappropriate immune activation, contributing to chronic inflammation and autoimmune disorders.
