Nuclear receptor subfamily 6 group A member 1 (NR6A1), also known as NURR1, is a nuclear receptor that plays a critical role in the development of the central nervous system, particularly in the differentiation and maintenance of dopaminergic neurons NR6A1 is highly expressed in areas of the brain involved in movement, such as the substantia nigra, where it is essential for the proper formation and function of dopaminergic neurons It regulates the expression of genes that control neurogenesis, cell survival, and synaptic plasticity, and its dysfunction has been linked to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease NR6A1 also plays a role in regulating immune responses and modulating inflammation, particularly in the context of neuroinflammation, which is often observed in neurodegenerative disorders Mutations or altered expression of NR6A1 can lead to impaired neuronal function, cognitive decline, and motor deficits In addition, NR6A1’s involvement in the regulation of immune responses and its impact on neural differentiation make it a potential therapeutic target for neurodegenerative diseases and inflammatory conditions in the nervous system
