Background
Nuclear receptor subfamily 0 group B member 2 (NR0B2), also known as SHP, is a nuclear receptor that acts as a key regulator in the control of metabolism and endocrine signaling NR0B2 functions by repressing the activity of other nuclear receptors involved in processes such as lipid metabolism, glucose homeostasis, and circadian rhythm regulation It is particularly involved in the regulation of liver function, where it helps control the expression of genes involved in bile acid synthesis and cholesterol metabolism NR0B2 exerts its effects by binding to DNA and interacting with other transcription factors to suppress gene expression in response to physiological signals The protein is also involved in maintaining metabolic balance by modulating the actions of thyroid hormone receptors, liver X receptors, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) Dysregulation of NR0B2 has been associated with metabolic disorders, such as obesity and diabetes, as well as liver diseases and certain cancers Its role in regulating energy metabolism and endocrine pathways makes NR0B2 a critical factor in maintaining cellular and systemic homeostasis and a potential therapeutic target for metabolic diseases
