Neurobeachin like 1 (NBEAL1) is a protein that belongs to the neurobeachin family and plays a crucial role in regulating intracellular signaling and the organization of the cytoskeleton NBEAL1 is predominantly expressed in neurons, where it is involved in the maintenance of synaptic function and neuronal communication It participates in the formation and function of the synapse, influencing synaptic plasticity, a process that is essential for learning and memory Additionally, NBEAL1 has been implicated in cellular processes such as cell adhesion, vesicular trafficking, and signal transduction Dysregulation or mutations in NBEAL1 are associated with several neurodevelopmental disorders, including a rare condition called bleeding disorder, which results in thrombocytopathy and defects in platelet function NBEAL1’s role in synaptic function and cellular signaling also suggests that it could be a target for therapeutic research aimed at treating neurological diseases and disorders related to cognitive function and platelet defects
