Taste Receptor Type 2 Member 114 (TAS2R114) is an integral component of the bitter taste receptor family, predominantly expressed in the taste buds on the tongue. This receptor plays a pivotal role in recognizing and responding to various bitter substances, acting as a defense mechanism to prevent the ingestion of potentially harmful or toxic compounds. TAS2R114 operates through G-protein-coupled receptor signaling, where the binding of a bitter ligand triggers intracellular calcium release, leading to neuronal activation and bitter taste perception.
