Descripción
Taste Receptor Type 2 Member 102 (TAS2R102) is part of the bitter taste receptor family found on the tongue and other tissues, contributing to the detection of bitter compounds in food and the environment. TAS2R102 is expressed on taste bud cells in the lingual epithelium, where it interacts with G-protein-coupled signaling pathways to elicit bitter taste perception. Recent studies have shown that TAS2R102 is also present in extra-oral tissues, such as the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory system, where it plays roles in modulating physiological responses, including hormone release and immune defense mechanisms. Polymorphisms in the TAS2R102 gene influence individual sensitivity to specific bitter compounds, which could have evolutionary implications for dietary preferences and toxin avoidance.
