Descripción
RAB40C, member RAS oncogene family (RAB40C) is a member of the RAB GTPase family that plays a significant role in vesicular trafficking within the cell. RAB40C specifically helps mediate the sorting of vesicles between the early endosome and lysosomes. This protein is also involved in regulating the recycling of cell surface receptors, which is critical for maintaining cellular signaling and membrane homeostasis. RAB40C influences cellular processes such as endocytosis and exocytosis by controlling the transport of proteins between cellular compartments, thus ensuring efficient signal transduction. Additionally, RAB40C has been implicated in the regulation of autophagy, a cellular process responsible for degrading damaged organelles and proteins. Disruption of RAB40C’s function has been linked to various diseases, including cancer, where abnormalities in vesicular trafficking and receptor signaling can lead to tumor progression. Furthermore, because RAB40C regulates vesicle transport in neurons, it also plays a role in neurodegenerative disorders where impaired autophagic processes contribute to neuronal damage and cell death.
