RAB33B, member RAS oncogene family (RAB33B) is a member of the RAB family of GTPases that regulates vesicular trafficking and cellular homeostasis RAB33B participates in the sorting and trafficking of proteins between the Golgi apparatus, endosomes, and lysosomes, playing an essential role in intracellular membrane dynamics It is particularly involved in the regulation of autophagy, where it aids in the formation and maturation of autophagosomes, which are responsible for the degradation of damaged or unnecessary cellular components In addition to its role in autophagy, RAB33B regulates the function of cellular membranes by influencing the movement of vesicles and cargo proteins between cellular compartments This is important for maintaining cellular signaling, protein recycling, and membrane dynamics RAB33B has also been implicated in modulating the immune response and cell migration, processes critical for tissue repair, inflammation, and cancer metastasis Dysregulation of RAB33B can lead to various diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and cancers, where altered vesicular trafficking contributes to pathological changes in cellular function and behavior
